Tamamuri

The keeper of hidden depths

Nature of the tree

The tamamuri, also called mururé, is a tree of the mulberry family. It grows in the forests of Amazonia. When its bark is wounded, a white milky sap emerges. It has long been known in the folk medicine of Amazonia; in plant medicine it is regarded as a tree that leads into the depths.

Inner attitude

The tamamuri shows little of itself. What it has, it carries inside. Only those who look more closely discover the bright sap beneath the dark bark.

The essential qualities

  • deep
  • quiet
  • nourishing
  • hidden
  • steadfast

Its light lies beneath the bark.

Meaning

The tamamuri calls when you are stuck on the surface and seek access to your inner self. It teaches you to look beneath the hard shell – in yourself and in others.

Voice of the tree

«Look beneath the bark. There flows what nourishes you.»

Encounter & working together

You meet it deep inside the forest, where the trunks stand dark and inconspicuous. Place your hand on the bark of a tree, close your eyes and feel what is alive beneath it.

Pay attention to

  • where you only see the surface
  • where something soft lies beneath something hard
  • where you would like to go deeper

The tamamuri works when you are ready to listen inwards.

Essence

I find the brightness in my depths.
