Mapacho

The keeper of the sacred breath

Nature of the plant

Mapacho is the wild tobacco of Amazonia, stronger than the tobacco we know. It has large, soft leaves and small yellow-green flowers. In the tradition it is regarded as a sacred plant and a teacher. Its smoke accompanies prayers, songs and ceremonies. It stands for protection, clarity and the connection between the worlds.

Inner attitude

Mapacho is direct and awake. It takes no detours. It reminds us that the breath, too, can be a prayer.

The essential qualities

  • protective
  • clarifying
  • grounding
  • awake
  • direct

It carries the prayer upwards.

Meaning

Mapacho calls when you need protection and clear boundaries or when your prayer asks for strength. It teaches respect: for the plant, for your own breath and for what is sacred.

Voice of the plant

«Speak clearly. Your breath carries your word.»

Encounter & working together

You meet it in respect for the sacred. Sit still, breathe out consciously and with every breath send a word of thanks into the world.

Pay attention to

  • where you need protection
  • where your word asks for clarity
  • where you act with respect

Mapacho works when you are ready to give your breath meaning.

Essence

I breathe clearly and my word has weight.
