Dog Rose

The keeper of wild grace

Nature of the plant

The dog rose grows at forest edges, in hedges and on sunny embankments. In early summer it opens simple flowers of five pale pink petals, in autumn its red rose hips glow. Its long shoots carry strong prickles. It is the wild sister of the garden roses – and the hedge behind which Sleeping Beauty sleeps in the fairy tale.

Inner attitude

The dog rose is beautiful without adorning itself. It simply blossoms as it is. Its prickles protect what is tender until the time is ripe.

The essential qualities

  • graceful
  • wild
  • protective
  • simple
  • persistent

Its beauty needs no garden.

Meaning

The dog rose calls when you have forgotten your own untamed beauty. It teaches you to show yourself as you are – gentle and wild at once – and to protect what is tender until it may awaken.

Voice of the plant

«You need not become more beautiful. Blossom as you are.»

Encounter & working together

You meet it by waysides, forest edges and old hedges. Look at a single blossom, count its five petals and let its simplicity touch you.

Pay attention to

  • where you want to appear more beautiful than you are
  • where something tender in you needs protection
  • where your wild side wants to live

The dog rose works when you are ready to show yourself in your natural beauty.

Essence

I blossom wild and simple, just as I am.
