Ayahuasca

The keeper of the soul’s paths

Nature of the plant

Ayahuasca is a vine of the rainforest. It winds in spirals up the trunks towards the light, often over many years. Its name comes from Quechua and is usually translated as «vine of the soul». In the ceremonies of the Shipibo and of the healers of Amazonia it stands at the centre – as a great teacher, accompanied by the sacred songs.

Inner attitude

Ayahuasca is patient and honest. It shows what is – not what we wish for. It leads into the depths and back again into the light.

The essential qualities

  • honest
  • deep
  • connecting
  • patient
  • guiding

It grows slowly and embraces what carries it.

Meaning

Ayahuasca calls when a great turning point is near or something old wants to come to light. It teaches you to look without running away, and to recognise yourself as part of a greater whole.

Voice of the plant

«Look. What you see belongs to you.»

Encounter & working together

You do not meet it in passing. It asks for respect and experienced guidance within the tradition. Look at a vine in the forest, follow its winding upwards with your eyes and feel how everything is connected.

Pay attention to

  • where you may look
  • what appears in your dreams
  • where you are connected with everything

Ayahuasca works when you are ready to be honest with yourself.

Essence

I look and find my way back to myself.
