Mythical beings

Garuda

The keeper of the liberating wings

Nature of Garuda

Garuda is the king of birds, half eagle, half human. When he hatched from the egg, he shone so brightly that the gods took him for fire. He carries the god Vishnu on his back and, so tradition tells, fetched the drink of immortality to free his mother. In Indonesia and Thailand he is a national emblem to this day. He stands for courage, loyalty and the strength to break free from bonds.

Inner attitude

Garuda flies fast and without hesitation when it comes to freeing someone. His strength is in the service of love.

The essential qualities

  • courageous
  • loyal
  • swift
  • liberating
  • radiant

He rises to set free, not to rule.

Meaning

Garuda appears when you feel bound – by old agreements, fears or duties. He invites you to open your wings and to stand up for yourself and others. And he reminds you that freedom often takes courage.

Voice of the being

«Open your wings. What holds you has no power over your flight.»

Encounter & working together

You meet Garuda in bright light: in the morning, when the sun rises, or when a large bird circles above you. Stand in the sun with open arms and breathe as if you had wings.

Pay attention to

  • where something old still binds you
  • where you can stand up for someone
  • where you have more courage than you think

Garuda works when you are ready to free yourself.

Essence

I open my wings and release myself from what holds me.
