Bennu
The keeper of the first morning
Nature of the Bennu
The Bennu is a sacred bird of ancient Egypt, usually shown as a heron with two long feathers at the back of its head. It belonged to the sun god Ra and was revered in Heliopolis, on the benben stone, an image of the first mound of creation. With its call, so the Egyptians told, time began. It stands for the daily renewal of the sun and is often seen as a model for the Greek phoenix.
Inner attitude
The Bennu stands still by the water and waits for the light. It knows: every night is followed by a morning. It does not have to force it.
The essential qualities
- patient
- renewing
- luminous
- primordial
- watchful
It returns like the sun, every day.
Meaning
The Bennu appears when something has come to an end and you do not know how to go on. It invites you to trust the new beginning. Every morning is a small creation – for you too.
Voice of the being
«I call, and the day begins. A morning is waiting in you too.»
Encounter & working together
You meet the Bennu by the water in the first light, when a heron stands motionless on the bank. Get up early one day, watch the sun rise and quietly say what you want to begin anew today.
Pay attention to
- where you hold on to what is past
- where a new beginning is waiting for you
- where you may trust the light again
The Bennu works when you are ready to begin anew.
Essence
I begin anew in the light every day.
